It will work but I would put a whole new cable on it and ground the case. It's always a wise electrical thing.

you need a minimum of 7 watts and it still might not do the metal. 15 watts may do but cost over $300 USD and a cheap machine is worth another 200. check out banggood.com to get an idea of what's available and gor how much.

What software are you using? Try laserGRBL or the paid T2laser programs. They allow you to set the lowest power for white setting so the gray scale runs just to marking white up to your highest black setting.
