Re: Polycarbonate

Polypropylene, polyethylene and polycarbonate all generate benzene, which is a carcinogen, during laser cutting. ( you should never cut this without using a suitable filtration system that is designed to remove these emissions ) Polystyrene releases styrene, while PVC emits hydrogen chloride ( which...

Re: Setting up hd laser head

The high res head should have come with its own focus strip, its around 3mm....did you get one with the head? if not you can make your own using the tapered step guide that comes with the machine, if you dont have one, i can send you a file to cut your own using the standard head

Re: Spot on 4" head lens reducing laser power

The NOZZLE shown at C is for engraving and cutting thin plastics, Part B is the standard head which accepts 50.2mm (2") focal length lens, the tube length can be 140mm to 165mm depending on the model. If you are cutting 1/4 wood then the standard head is better ( 2"Focal length) the 4 inch focal is ...

A doughmit shap is the tube on the way out... What brand is the tube, this happens to a certain brand of tube more than others....if you contact me direct i can say more about this issue. On a lot of occasions even though the beam is a ring not a dot, the power level can be the same as a solid circl...

Re: not happy with LaserStar Engraving Machine

Hiya Very often 24k gold plate is not 24k gold, its more likely to be a composite /alloy, unless you know exactly the composition and plating method you will find it hard to make an impression, try a slower scan rate, see if that helps, I should have a similar model in the workshop in a month or so,...

Re: X Axis Sensor Replacement - Help Required

Just to start, what is the bed size set in the software, also have you ever used the calibration facility in RDworks Vendor settings to ensure the motor step value is correct. If the head is hitting this can be caused by the step value moving the head more than the software thinks its moving

Re: deep cutting wood

Using the engraving function, high pressure air and high power I can carve 6mm on our 150W machine when doing signs, masking the surface can help, but you can get rid of a lot of surface charring by putting the wooden piece under running water ( after its cut ) and using a soft brush to loosen any d...

Re: laser cut acrylic from vendor cut at a non-right angle - is this common?

Lasers will always impart an angle on the edge, you can calculate the angle if you know your beam diameter ( say 6mm) and focus length ( say 50mm ). If you think of a right angled triangle, the opposite length is Half the diameter of the beam, the focus length is the adjacent. working out the tangen...

Re: not happy with LaserStar Engraving Machine

Hiya Are you sure you have bought a laserstar? they normally come with Laserstars own software not ezcad or Prolase 7 software. can you send a link to the website you bought from, 30W Fiber can mark but you will have a job cutting gold or silver with a low wattage even of its fiber. for 1mm gold on ...
