Re: What is wrong
Problems like this are often mechanical. Make sure your linear slides are clean and the belts are not worn or slack. Could also be worn bearings in the stepper motors. With the machine unplugged, check if the slides move freely.

Re: New to the laser world, need help on starting a project.
You can probably cut at 10mm/s with a 40W tube so base your calculation on that. There is no fixed size - you can fit a 40W tube in a very large machine. Lasers are not really portable as you need coolant, air assist etc. Plus you might have to re-align the optics every time you move it around. What...

Re: New to the laser world, need help on starting a project.
40 watts will do the job. The very cheap K40 lasers use software called Moshidraw which will not let you cut and engrave in one session. Most other lasers that run Lasercut, RDworks etc. will cut and engrave in one session. Can't comment on the time to cut. Depends on the true power of your tube and...

If AutoLaser is similar to other Chinese laser software then you may need to install a plugin in Corel.

Re: 40 w machine faulty ?
are there any known problems with these please ? Yes, they are basically a pile of poo. You can upgrade with better controller, PSU, tube etc. but by then you might as well have bought a better machine to begin with. Depending on how old it is, you should get the PSU replaced under warranty. Have y...

Re: How to cut foam?
I cut a lot of 3mm and 6mm Depron on my laser with an 80W tube. For 3mm I use 20 power, 60 speed. I have a large compressor to deliver lots of air. This improves the quality of the cut a lot.

Re: Starting a new business would like your advice
100W tube sounds about right for those thicknesses. Quality of ply matters - some ply can be hard to cut with a laser.

Metal cutting option from Thunderlaser?
I have seen some reports that metal cutting in thin sheet (under 1.5mm) is just about possible with a 150W CO2 tube and oxygen assist. Is that option available on Thunderlaser machines? I would think the HD head might just about work with oxygen assist. I'm not a beginner when it comes to laser cutt...
