Using the AIR ASSIST or not.

Hello everyone

I have a 100W laser cutter and now I am working with ABS plastic. This material is white but has a red painted side as you can see in the pictures.
The engraving part is OK.

The problem I have is when I have to cut it. If I use the air assist the material shows some decoloration in the edges. But when I turn the air assist off it catches fire.

So what I am doing now is engraving first. Afterwards I am going to mask the material and finally cut the shapes.

Any other ideas? Any other way to do it?
