Laser Engraving Acrylic Help Needed

I have a HPC laser machine and was wondering if anyone can explain how I can achieve the following results. As you can see from the image that I engraved, is not the result I was expecting. I need the parts that are engraved to not be engraved and the parts that are not engraved to be engraved. If anyone can help me on how to achieve this I would be grateful.
I'm using corel X4 with lasercut 5.3

I'm no expert , but did you try to make the image negative? I use Corel x7 with rdcam and that seems to work for me
