Noob laser guy

Hi all,
I hope everyone is well. I have just got a laser engraver from China and I am having some problems hope someone can help me.
So everything has been setup and I know how to roughly work it however, when I start to engrave some lettering on some wood the he laser does not stop engraving when moving to the next letter when I have set it up to be block capitals hope someone guru can help thanks in advance.

When I set it ready too engrave if I set it to engrave GRANT, when the laser moves from G to R it will continue to engrave to the next letter and every other letter. If I turn the machine on when the laser goes from the top right to the middle the laser will make a faint Mark as if the laser is constantly on.
