The meaning and function of various laser processing parameters

Post by perfectlaserChina »

What are the specific meanings and functions of laser processing parameters? Such as laser power, processing speed, resolution, frequency, processing times, air assist, and Z-axis offset? This article will briefly explain the significance and role of the parameters of laser engraving and cutting.
Laser processing parameters of laser power and processing speed:
The laser power and working speed are the most important parameters in the material processing parameter database, which are set from 0 to 100% in percentage. (Domestic power is calculated as a percentage, but the speed is mostly 0-1000MM/S)
The laser power represents the output power of the laser, and 100% is the maximum laser output power. In general, high laser power is required for wood laser engraving and stamp laser carving. Conversely, the cutting paper material just need to use lower laser power.
The laser processing speed refers to the moving speed of the laser processing head. The high speed movement to a shorter laser processing time, and the low speed movement corresponds to a longer laser processing time. For example, the large area engraving of the Trollope is generally selected high speed (80-100%), and engraving picture on wood, the speed should be set within 10%. This laser processing parameter setting will affect the effect of laser cutting.
Note: The speed of laser cutting and laser engraving is a complete concept. Basically, laser cutting will be slower than laser engraving. 10% laser cutting speed is already a "high speed" laser cutting.
Laser processing parameters - PPI and frequency
PPI (=number of pulses per inch) indicates the number of laser pulses received per inch of material during laser engraving. To achieve a better laser engraving effect, it must be the same as or equal to the resolution set in the print settings panel. If set to "Auto", the Controller Laser App will automatically optimize setting parameter.
During cutting, the laser processing parameter - frequency setting is very important, usually expressed in Hz (= Hertz) which represents the number of pulses released per second by the laser. For CO2 lasers, this value can be set from 1,000 to 60,000 Hz. For example, to cutting of acrylic, in order to achieve a smooth cutting edge, need a higher processing temperature, so this parameter needs to be set 5,000. Up to 20,000 Hz, on the other hand, when cutting wood materials, the frequency setting of about 1000 Hz will achieve the best laser cutting edge effect.
Laser processing parameters and times
Laser processing times indicates the number of laser cutting and laser engraving. In the laser processing operation of some materials, the low-power high-speed multiple-repetition laser engraving process will make the engraving effect better. In this case, the processing material has a small processing intensity, so this method can also be used for relief processing.
Air assist for laser processing parameters:
In the process of laser engraving and cutting, the use of compressed air will significantly influence and improve the effect of processing, moreover air assist can protect the optical lens from damage, because its can prevent dust stick to the lens, however, there are some laser in processing need to pay special attention to turn off air assist functions, for example, during laser engraving Trollope, if close the air assist functions will have better effect, in this case, optical lenses and lens need more frequently check so that avoid to damage by pollution.
Z axis offset of laser processing parameters
Z axis offset refers to the focus setting, if the Z axis offset is set to 0, laser will be in the "positive focus", that is the focus of the laser position in material surface, and for some laser processing application, need to deliberately deviate the focus, for example, when the laser engraving Trollope on a large area, we recommend setting up 2 mm away from the focal distance, in order to obtain consistent effect, Z axis offset range of Settings:-5mm (move the table up, i.e. the laser head is closer to the material surface), to 127mm (the table is move down, i.e. the laser head is further away from the material surface).
