Fiber laser VS CO2 laser

Post by Hypnos »

The two most common types of laser cutting machines are: fiber laser cutting machines and CO2 laser cutting machines.
CO2 lasers usually use electromagnetic excitation gas (usually a mixture of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen, xenon or helium) as the active laser medium. In contrast, fiber lasers (solid-state lasers) use optical fibers doped with rare earth elements (such as neodymium or neodymium) as the working material. As Houldcroft's experiment shows, the laser cutting industry began with the use of CO2 lasers, and CO2 lasers have been in a leading position in the laser cutting industry for many years. At present, the optical fiber cutting machine has occupied an absolute dominant position in the metal material laser cutting market.

The advantages of fiber lasers are improved with development: good beam quality; small size, light weight, maintenance-free; air-cooled, simple and easy to operate; low operating cost, can be used in industrial environments; long life, high processing accuracy, and fast speed; High power conversion efficiency, intelligent, automated, and flexible operation can be realized.
