Problem engraving uneven power at times

Hi I'm having problem with my laser I'm just wondering if anybody had this problem before and if somebody could tell me if you had this resolved

was the cut depth about the same and just the colour screwy? cant quite tell by the pic, if its just the colour its likely the quality of the wood
