50 watt CO2 Focus issue

Post by Apache_sim »

Recently replaced the Tube and Power Supply. Aligned mirrors and completed a focusing Ramp test.
All appeared to be just right, and the laser worked as expected.

Today we cannot focus, and the laser is producing a beam of about 2 mm.
Did a ramp test and the engraving is the same width all the way along about 2mm

Checked the lens and it looked a little dirty with some mild clouding in the centre. Replaced the lens for a brand new 2".
Completed ramp test with no change. Must admit I am stumped.

Has anyone come across a similar issue?

The first thing I would check is that your mirrors and the tube’s output coupler are clean and also that the focus lens is fitted correctly (convex side facing towards the tube).
Then check that the tube is not being overpowered as this can cause a change in the beam shape from the required TEM 00.
