unwanted lines

Hi all, I'm the new kid on the block. I recently purchased a EleksLaser-A3 Pro 2500mW Laser Engraving Machine. I managed to put it together and after pulling what little hair I have left out even got it to produce a image. The problem I'm having is I have to turn the laser on by pressing the button on the laser itself. Consequently I get a line from where ever the Laser starts from. Also as it is burning the image where it should stop lasing and move on to another part of the image. It just burns a line to it and so the end result is a image full of unwanted lines. Any help would be really appreciated.
