Some Advise

Hi Everyone,
I AM totally new to laser engraving and could use some newbie advice. Fortunately I have not spent any $$ on anything as of yet. I have 3d printed some wood boxes that are 8 x 8 x 1 inch in diameter. I would love to be able to laser engrave some graphics on the side which is 8 x 1 inches. I have really gotten lost with all of the information on the internet about machines and usages etc. Just need some advice.
1 - Will be laser engraving about 20 boxes
2 - Dont really want to spend more than $1000 on a machine
Can you please recommend some options that would accommodate the area and dimensions I would like to engrave on?
