Approach to engraving Formica or other laminates

I build some household items (serving trays) with Formica finished surfaces, and I'd like to add some personalization/customization to them. My question is about engraving/marking, NOT cutting through.

I have access to 100W C02 lasers, as well as 30W Fiber Laser (much smaller area, of course).

Suggestions as to which would be most practical? I really don't want more than simply "marking", as I believe that anything deeper would cause the laminate to "delaminate".
